Biography
Xawery Wolski was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1960. He studied fine art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, the Academie des Beaux Arts in Paris (studio Cesar), and the New York Studio School. He began sculpting in 1983 in Carrara, Italy, and quickly established an artistic language based on an aesthetic of minimalism. His work is executed in natural materials such as earth, fired clay, and stone.
Wolski’s interest in terracotta led him to Peru and Mexico, where he received grants from the French Ministry of Culture and Foreign Affairs. His work has been exhibited in the National Gallery of Poland (Zacheta), Museo de Arte Carillo Gil, Museo Rufino Tamayo, Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico, The Drawing Center in New York, the Jim Thompson Foundation in Bangkok, The National Gallery of Jakarta, and Musée du Montparnasse in Paris.
